After a hectic day who really has time and energy to figure out what to make for dinner or trudge down busy grocery aisles with the kids in tow ? As a busy working Mom, I recently decided to simplify my life and make things easier by using Fresh Prep meal delivery service. As much as I love to meal plan, I had to give up the fantasy of having it ALL together! With being the mom of a busy Toddler I came to the realization that my days of spending long hours in the kitchen are over – at least for this season of my life anyways.
I am one of the last people you would ever think would use a meal delivery service, as my passion for cooking and food runs deep. Enjoying endless hours in the kitchen making recipes from scratch was my Jam! I would even find peace in the prep work – Crazy, I KNOW! That’s how much joy cooking brings me. With my son reaching so many new and exciting developmental milestones in the past year, the less I was finding myself drawn to the kitchen. Once a place I felt inspired, now became a place of dread. The guilt of plopping my son in front of the TV to distract him while I made an elaborate meal wasn’t sitting right with me and being in the kitchen no longer felt fulfilling. I was feeling major #momguilt. Trips to the grocery stores were more difficult so for awhile we resorted to takeout food and I wasn’t content with our family’s food choices. I knew something had to give so I researched local companies and to my delight I discovered Fresh Prep.
Since using Fresh Prep for just a few months I am happy to report that I have got my ‘Kitchen Groove’ back! I am not only inspired to be back in the kitchen again but also feel happy about the healthy wholesome meals I am feeding my Family again. The meals are delivered right to my door with the planning, shopping & prep work done for me. I’m still in the kitchen to prepare homemade meals but with little to no prep work and only for 30 minutes or less. All the recipe research is done for me also so less time browsing online and more time being present with my Family. The days of me running around to source certain ingredients from specific stores are gone too. I now include my Son in the meal preparation and dinnertime has now become his favorite time of day when he pulls up a stool to help mama cook.
The first step to using Fresh Prep is creating an account simply with your email address. During the simple account setup you will chose your taste and delivery preferences. The ordering process is very easy. Fresh Prep will select meals based on the taste preference you provide during sign up, and if you need to change anything you can do so easily. There are 8 different meal options offered every week to chose from.
You can switch your preferences and meals, skip weeks or cancel anytime.
Pricing was one of the main factor’s for me when I was looking for a meal delivery service. I was happy to discover that Fresh Prep was a very affordable option – in fact cheaper than our average weekly grocery bill! Our family opts for the 4 x 4 person meal kit at $144 per week. The portion sizes are quite large so we usually have full-sized leftover lunches for the next day for work which saves us a considerable amount of money.
The cost is far less than what you would pay for take out or even at your local grocery store, especially when you factor in all the time you save and avoided wastage. Each kit includes the exact portion of what you need to make a particular recipe so you don’t need to buy a whole bottle of something when you only need a few teaspoons of it.
Prices are based on how many meals and servings you order weekly. The meals range from $9-$11 per serving with delivery and tax included.
To make things easier I chose the same delivery time slot each week. For the occasional time I am not home to accept the delivery it is left in a insulated cooler bag with ice packs at doorstep to ensure everything stays fresh for several hours.
Fresh Prep currently delivers to Vancouver, and much of Greater Vancouver. Delivery days are Sunday – Thursday, with time slots varying based on location.
I always assumed that meal delivery service meals would be bland, boring and basic. Boy, was I wrong! All the dishes that I have tried to date have been unique in flavor and far from basic. I like to try to think of myself as quite the Gourmet Foodie but even Fresh Prep has introduced me to some new dishes and ingredients that I have never tried before. Each meal come with a healthy balance of vegetables which has increased our family’s vegetable intake considerably. When I personalize our menu each week I usually select at least two vegetarian meal options so we have a healthy balance throughout the week.
I love the fact that Fresh Prep strives to source the highest quality ingredients (local and organic as possible.) The produce is locally sourced and organic whenever possible and all meat is hormone and antibiotic free. All of the seafood is 100% Ocean Wise. They work with nutritionists to ensure all the meals offered are wholesome and well balanced – typically ranging from 500-800 calories per serving.
Each meal kit includes fresh ingredients and easy to follow recipes separately packed for each recipe ordered. Most of the ingredients, from chopped veggies to pre-measured spices and seasoning, are already prepped. All you generally need to have on hand is salt, pepper, and oil.
